Who would have thought that 2020 would be a year that no-one would ever forget? The world has changed and in particular, weddings have been cancelled or postponed. All down to the fact that we are no longer allowed to gather in groups from different households. The lack of special day celebrations has been met with different reactions from couples up and down the UK.
Some have been able to move the date of their big day to 2021, some have decided to press ahead with just the two of them saying their vows and some have just wanted to take the ostrich approach and hide their head in the sand.
We don't know exactly when weddings are going to be allowed to be held like before, or how they will look. However, one trend that we think will really take off is outdoor weddings.
The only trouble with this is that outdoor weddings can be a bit of a pain to organise. There is lots to think about and plan for and there are lots that could go wrong.
So, if you are thinking about this being your go to wedding day option, then you might want to take a look at some of the questions that have come up about outdoor weddings.
What about bad weather?
Rain is the main concern for most couples planning an outdoor wedding. The bad news is that there isn't much you can do to stop it from raining (even a rain dance won't help you).
The best thing that you can do is have a backup plan. For many this is hiring a marquee or at the very least a gazebo, which will allow you and your guests to take shelter should the rain come. It may also be worth having an assortment of umbrellas on offer should the rain start. You could even make this a part of your theme and go for brollies in your colour scheme.
What food works for an outdoor wedding?
If you are planning an outdoor wedding then you still need to provide food for your guests, however, being outside means that you can have some fun with what you offer. It goes without saying that a BBQ will work really well for an outdoors wedding, as would a picnic, maybe even using this as a chance to indulge in a spot of afternoon tea on the lawn. You could lay out picnic blankets rather than tables and encourage everyone to go a little alfresco. Something that the kids will love.
How can I keep my guests entertained?
It can be hard to know what entertainment is going to work best with an outdoor wedding, particularly if you are worried that you might make too much noise and disturb those who live nearby. A good way to still have music but not cause too much of a problem is to hire an acoustic singer to perform live. Your guests will love to sing along with them and it will have the feel of an intimate gig.
Won’t my wedding dress get ruined?
If you have already bought your wedding dress, then you may have to resign yourself to the fact that it might get a little dirty during the course of the day if you spend it outside. However, seeing as there is a good chance that you are not going to wear it again and that most of the dirt won’t be visible, this really doesn’t matter too much. That said, if you haven’t bought your dress yet, then you could always think about getting a short one to wear instead of a long gown, which will fix the problem.
Not only this, but when it comes to what the bride (and the bridesmaids wear) you might want to try out wearing flat shoes rather than heels. This is particularly true if you are going to spend a lot of your time on the grass, where heels will easily sink in.
